Assistance and support provided for disABLED youth
Focus on Youth Inc provides support and assistance for young people with mild or moderate intellectual, physical or multiple disabilities. We improve the quality of life for disabled youth through social interaction, appropriate support, an increased community presence and helping them develop life long friendships.
Assistance and support is provided for young people between the ages of seven and twenty-nine. In certain circumstances we have found that younger and older youth may gain valuable experiences by participating in our program.
Contact us to determine whether your child will benefit from the experience.
Focus on Youth Inc currently offers support and assistance on:
- Whole of weekend and
- School holidays.
Special arrangements may be made for any other times.
The organisation owns a twelve seater bus with wheelchair access which is used to transport the youth to and from activities. All activities commence and end at Seventeen Mile Rocks however arrangements may be made to pickup and drop-off the youth at other locations.
We seriously discharge our responsibilities to the young people while they are with us. All individuals before they may assist on activities must pass the appropriate child safety checks. We ensure that the bus drivers have the necessary licenses and other qualifications. All those who provide support and assistance to the youth receive formal and on-the-job training. The young people are always accompanied by someone with a current first aid certificate.
Two to three Saturdays a month the youth are transported to new destinations in Brisbane and its surrounds in the company of individuals who are responsible for their wellbeing. Most activities begin at 9 am and end before 4 pm.
Examples of previous events - kayaking/canoeing, bush walking, ice and roller skating, horse riding, lots of visits to numerous theme parks, water parks, beach activities, river cruising, movies, picnics, swimming as often they can, farm visits, Ekka, and barbeques. The organisation purchased canoes for the youth to use. View upcoming events or contact us for further information.
